Harper and Trudeau remain locked in a statistical tie in the weekly preferred Prime Minister tracking by Nanos. Thirty-one per cent of Canadians identified Stephen Harper as their choice for preferred PM, while 30 per cent picked Justin Trudeau. Thomas Mulcair remains in third at 19%, followed by Elizabeth May at 4%. Fifteen per cent were unsure. On the Nanos Party Power Index itself, the federal Liberals are at 57 points out of 100 followed by the Conservatives at 52 points, the NDP at 50 points, the Green Party at 32 points and the BQ at 28 points (QC only). Ballot – The latest Nanos federal ballot tracking has the Conservatives at 34.5 per cent, followed by the Liberals at 31.8 per cent, the NDP at 15.9 percent, the BQ at 4.6 per cent, the Greens at 9.7 per cent and the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) at 0.9 per cent.
Accessible Voters – Asked whether they would consider voting for each of the federal parties, 46.2 per cent would consider voting Conservative, while 45.6 per cent of Canadians say they would consider voting Liberal. Four in ten (38.2%) would consider voting NDP, 33.9 per cent would consider voting Green, 9.1 per cent would consider voting for the People’s Party and 36.4 per cent would consider voting for the BQ.
Preferred Prime Minister – Nanos tracking has Trudeau as the preferred choice as PM at 30.9 per cent of Canadians followed by Scheer (27.0%), Singh (7.7%), May (9.6%) and Bernier (1.7%). Twenty two per cent of Canadians were unsure whom they preferred.
Qualities of a Good Political Leader – Few than half of Canadians (43.0%) believe Trudeau has the qualities of a good political leader while 39.8 per cent believe Scheer has the qualities of a good political leader. Three in ten (31.4%) say Jagmeet Singh has the qualities of a good political leader, while 37.4 per cent believe the same about May. One in six (18.1%) believe Bernier has the qualities of a good political leader 26.1 per cent said Blanchet has the qualities of a good political leader (QC only).
Nanos Party Power Index – The Nanos Index which is a composite of a series of measures including ballot and leadership impressions has the Conservatives 51.8 points, followed by the Liberals with 49.5 points, the NDP 41.6 points, the Greens 38.4 points, the People’s Party 27.1 points and the BQ 31.6 points (QC only).

Ballot – The latest Nanos federal ballot tracking has the Conservatives at 34.6 per cent, followed by the Liberals at 32.5 per cent, the NDP at 19.4 percent, the BQ at 3.9 per cent, the Greens at 8.3 per cent and the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) at 0.6 per cent.
Accessible Voters – Asked whether they would consider voting for each of the federal parties, 49.1 per cent of Canadians say they would consider voting Liberal while 45.7 per cent would consider voting Conservative. Four in ten (42.3%) would consider voting NDP, 34.7 per cent would consider voting Green, 11.2 per cent would consider voting for the People’s Party and 30.9 per cent would consider voting for the BQ.

2014-07-16 Weekly Federal Party Power Index – ending July 11 (Nanos Research)

For the first time since early June, Stephen Harper has numerically surpassed Justin Trudeau on the preferred Prime Minister weekly tracking although the research suggests perceptions on this measure remain tight. Thirty one percent of Canadians said they would prefer Harper as Prime Minister compared to 29 percent for Trudeau and 19 percent for Mulcair. Also, of note, over the same period, Mulcair has gained ground from a low of 14 percent to his current level of 19 percent. 2014-07-30 Weekly Federal Party Power Index – ending July 15 (Nanos Research)

Nanos tracking on the preferred prime minister front suggests that Trudeau and Harper are still tied at 30 percent points each respectively while Mulcair, although third has recovered lost ground and is at 20 points (from a low of 14 percent in June 2014).

A roll-up of the Nanos Federal Party Power Index has the Liberals at 56 points out of a possible 100 points, with the Conservatives at 51 points, the NDP at 50 points, the Green Party at 33 points and the BQ at 26 points (Quebec only).
