Canadians’ confidence scores for security issues have lowered across the board in 2023, with all four tracking issues hitting a ten-year low. The biggest declines in confidence were observed for Canadians who are confident (nine percent) or somewhat confident (42%) in the nation’s abilities to keeping safe communities and, those confident (12%) or somewhat confident (40%) in Canada’s ability to protect our borders.

Nanos conducted an RDD dual frame (land-and cell-lines) hybrid telephone and online random survey of 1,058 Canadians, 18 years of age or older, between October 1st to 4th, 2023 as part of an omnibus survey. Participants were randomly recruited by telephone using live agents and administered a survey online. Individuals randomly called using random digit dialling with a maximum of five call backs.

The margin of error for a random survey of 1,058 Canadians is ±3.0 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

The research was commissioned and conducted by Nanos Research.
