After being informed that the Maritimes Indigenous population makes up about
five per cent of the region’s population, about six in ten Canadians with an
opinion (61%) say that the Government of Canada should give them between
five to ten per cent of the fishery. One in three (33%) say they should be given
more than ten per cent and one in twenty (five per cent) say they should be
given less than five per cent.
Nanos conducted an RDD dual frame (land- and cell-lines) hybrid telephone and online random survey of 1,093 Canadians, 18 years of age or older, between August 30th to September 2nd, 2024, as part of an omnibus survey. The margin of error for this survey is ±3.0 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
The research was commissioned by the Coalition of Atlantic and Québec Fishing Organizations and was conducted by Nanos Research.
