When asked what barriers they have experienced when it comes to accessing housing that meets their needs, a majority (57%) of respondents say housing price/affordability/high down payments. This was followed by income/employment/ personal finances/inflation (30%), lack of housing/ long wait lists (28%) and location/ distance to services/transportation (20%).

Just under six in ten respondents say they are satisfied (26%) or somewhat satisfied (33%) with their current housing, while one in five say they are somewhat unsatisfied (18%) or unsatisfied (22%). Older respondents aged 35 to 54 and 55 plus are more likely to be satisfied with their housing (32% and 30%, respectively) than younger respondents aged 17 to 34 (16%).

Of those who say they are unsatisfied or somewhat unsatisfied with their current housing, respondents most often mention because it is expensive/ unaffordable (47%), followed by the housing is too small/crowded/ want more space (26%) and because of unhappiness with their landlord/building maintenance/mold (17%)

Nanos hosted an open link online survey promoted by NWAC. Three hundred and twenty six Indigenous Women, Two-Spirit, Transgender and Gender-Diverse individuals, 17 years of age and over, from March 2nd to March 21st, 2023 shared their views. Participants were recruited through an open-link survey. Participants were asked to self-identify as Inuit, Métis or First Nations. Surveys were conducted in English and French.
