Most Canadians support or somewhat support online platforms found to host hate speech being required to remove the content within 24 hours and including legislation in the Online Harms Act for websites hosting online pornography being required to verify their users are 18 years and older. Two in three support or somewhat support raising the maximum punishment for advocating genocide to life imprisonment.
Nanos conducted an RDD dual frame (land- and cell-lines) hybrid telephone and online random survey of 1069 Canadians, 18 years of age or older, between March 31st and April 1st, 2024 as part of an omnibus survey. Participants were randomly recruited by telephone using live agents and administered a survey online.
The margin of error for this survey is ±3.0 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
